Snow in Colorado
The snowiest months in much of Colorado tend to be the months of February, March and
sometimes even April. However, we know that snows are possible from September to
almost mid-May. If we get snow in September, (It is a little unusual in September.)
it tends to melt within a few hours of the storms passage because the ground is still warm
and the suns rays are still intense. I have seen many an April, May or September snowfall melt
within hours and daytime temperatures reach back into the fifties and sixties. Three years ago
we had over three feet of snow fall overnight the last weekend in October. That unusually large
snowfall stuck around for a few weeks since late October is a bit colder than September.
Every once in a while we will get a few inches of snow in early May but similar to September it is a little odd
and is gone within a few hours of falling with temperatures rising fast.
From October through April you may need a four-wheel drive or all-wheel drive vehicle.
If you will be renting an SUV make certain that it is four-wheel drive. Not all SUVs are.
Our area boasts over three-hundred days of sunshine and low humidity.
